Obituary

On January 2nd at 10:42 in the morning, Alda went on to be with her family in heaven. She had battled a tough fight over the past year, dealing with Guillain–Barré syndrome in addition to compounding health issues and complication after complication. She fought hard for her family and to be an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother, and auntie to all her loved ones. Alda was an amazing mother to own children but also was like a mother to her closest friends’ children, and she would do absolutely anything to see them smile.

Alda was born on September 29, 1984 to Frank and Maria Castro in San Bernadino, California. She spent her younger days in California and moved to Sumas in 1995. She attended Nooksack and Mount Baker High School. She then went on to work as a store manager for Safeway in Lynden for 13 years and was a friend to so many in the community.

It may sound cliché, but she really was the brightest light when she walked into any room. She was the first to grab a baby for a hug and some snuggles and ask if you needed anything. She was always willing to help anyone in need or even help translate Portuguese or Spanish for elderly in the community. She had a smile that showed her joy. She could dance in any situation where the music hit just right. Alda will always be remembered for being amazing, kind, beautiful, sassy, and having a heart of gold.

Alda is survived by her fiancé Jake Gray, their sons Treshawn Walker and Bentley Gray and daughter Mia Gray, her mother Maria Pereria, father Frank Castro, brothers Frank Castro Jr. and Mike Castro, sister Linda Castro, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 17th from 4pm to 8pm at the Fairhaven Cruise Terminal.

Sending my deepest condolences to her family. I was Mia’s preschool teacher and I fondly remember Alda. She was always smiling and always attentive to Mia and always wanting to know how her day went at preschool. I enjoyed our short conversations during Mia’s drop off and pick up from preschool. She will be missed, but never forgotten ❤️
