Keep an eye on foods with a high amount of carbohydrates. These include breads, pastas, and potatoes, among others. Carbohydrates are very satisfying and that is why dishes with carbohydrates as their basis are so comforting.

 

However, eating a lot of carbohydrates can cause you to have energy spikes. You may feel very energetic immediately after eating a high carbohydrate meal, but within an hour, your energy will be depleted and you will likely fall asleep.

 

This can impede your progress in getting the things done to take care of your loved one’s affairs after they die, and the longer this process takes, the more stressed you will be and the less able you’ll be to focus on working through the grieving process.

 

Another way that can help with grief is incorporating regular exercise into your daily routine. Exercise doesn’t mean you have to do extremely strenuous activities. You can simply walk for 30 minutes a day to improve your energy levels and your mood.

 

If at all possible, you should try to get outside when you exercise. One reason is because it gets you into a different environment. The other reason is that being in nature, no matter what time of the year it is, can be very comforting and soothing.

 

There is a final way that can help with grief that is time-tested, but it may not be something you’d even think about. That way is to write about your grief.
